Computing

Computing at Great Bridge Primary School

The Computing curriculum at Great Bridge Primary School aims to equip our pupils with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and balanced computing education that enables students to become digitally literate, creative problem-solvers, and responsible users of technology. Through our curriculum, we ensure that pupils develop computational thinking skills, acquire coding abilities, and understand the ethical considerations and impact of technology on society.

Since September 2021, we have been incorporating units from the Teach Computing Curriculum to support the progression of knowledge and skills across our Computing Curriculum. Although we are still implementing these units, we have already observed a positive impact on pupil achievement and outcomes.

At Great Bridge Primary School, our aims align with those of the National Curriculum. We strive to deliver a comprehensive and engaging computing curriculum that:

  • Equips pupils with the life skills necessary to participate positively in a rapidly changing digital world, fostering confidence and digital literacy.
  • Enables pupils of all abilities to recognise online dangers and understand how to act appropriately, promoting safe and responsible technology use.
  • Develops pupils' logical thinking and problem-solving skills through diverse Computer Science lessons, fostering their ability to think computationally.
  • Offers pupils opportunities to engage in a variety of practical computing experiences, encouraging creativity through activities like word processing, animation, music creation, video editing, and physical programming.

By following our computing curriculum, pupils at Great Bridge Primary School will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. In line with our school values of “all valued, all achieving, all equal,” we are committed to providing an inclusive and engaging learning environment that prepares our children for the challenges and opportunities of the digital world.

Online Safety

Children have the right to enjoy childhood online, to access safe online spaces, and to benefit from all the opportunities that a connected world can bring to them.

The Education for a Connected World framework describes the knowledge, understanding and skills that children should have the opportunity to develop at different ages and stages. It enables the development of teaching and learning as well as guidance to support children to live knowledgeably, responsibly and safely in a digital world. It focusses specifically on eight different aspects of online education:

Day 12: ProjectEVOLVE - Global EdTech

At Great Bridge Primary School, we have started to utilise ProjectEVOLVE, which covers the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes as set out by the eight strands of online lives. The framework aims to support and broaden the provision of online safety education, so that it is empowering, builds resilience and effects positive culture change. The objectives promote the development of safe and appropriate long-term behaviours, and support educators in shaping the culture within their setting and beyond.
